The Barcol Impressor or Hardness Tester or Durometer meets the following ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials) standards: E140-97; D2583-75; B648-78: E140-97 Standard Hardness Conversion Tables for Metals; D2583-75 Standard Method of Testing for Indentation Hardness of Plastics by means of a Barcol Impressor; B648-78 Standard Method of Testing for Indentation Harness of Aluminum Alloys by means of a Barcol Impressor.
Fire Department version: The Barcol Impressor meets the following NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) standards: NFPA 1931 Design of and Design Verification Tests for Fire Department Ground Ladders; NFPA 1932 Use, Maintenance, and Service Testing of Fire Department Ground Ladders.

Features of the Barcol Impressor
Portable The Barcol Hardness Tester is a convenient tool for testing the hardness of aluminum, aluminum alloys, copper, brass and other materials including plastics and fiberglass. The instrument is designed for use on fabricated parts and assemblies as well as on raw stock.
Easy to Use No experience required; can be used in any position and in any space that will allow for the operator's hand. The hardness reading is instantly indicated on the dial, which is divided into one hundred graduations. No waiting, pre-loading or separate measurements.
Light Weight The Barcol Impressor weighs only 1 lb. 2 oz. The entire Impressor package comes complete with carrying case, adjusting wrench and two spare indenter points. The Impressor + case = 2 lb. 8oz. (1.13 Kg) Shipping weight = 4 lbs (1.8 Kg), box = 12 x 11 x 6 inches (21 x 28 x 16 cm).
